PORT 452 - Introduction to Portuguese Linguistics

This course explores the field of linguistics as it applies to the Portuguese language. The main goal is to investigate the Portuguese language structure, including the sound system (phonetics and phonology), word formation (morphology), sentence formation (syntax), and discourse (pragmatics), in addition to aspects regarding language variation across time and styles. This panoramic view is intended to advanced learners of Portuguese and aims at facilitating a profounder understanding of the language.
