Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Esmeralda Ribeiro is a writer and member of Quilombhoje – a literary group of Afro-Brazilian writers created in the early 1980s. She is one of the editors of Cadernos Negros – an important vehicle for providing visibility to Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous literature in Brazil. Her poetry and short stories narrate the reality of Afro-Brazilian women in Brazil.
