Dr. Fernandes will be giving a workshop titled “Make It Pops! Maximizing Student Talk Time Through the Teach Speaking Cycle and Pop Culture.” This session will focus on practical strategies for increasing student talk time, moving from teacher-centered talk to student-centered communication, and supporting ACTFL proficiency goals through classroom-ready speaking task templates, planning tools, and assessment strategies. The workshop will take place on April 10, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in ILC 112. Snacks will be available at 12:30 p.m. Please register using the link/QR in the flyer.
Dr. Fernandes will also be giving a talk titled “Balancing Humanistic Goals and Utilitarian Pressures in Language Education,” which will examine the tension between the humanistic foundations of language study and increasing institutional demands for practical, career-oriented outcomes. The talk will take place on Friday, April 10, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in ML 403.
These events should be of particular interest to instructors and GATs involved and interested in language teaching, curriculum design, and proficiency-oriented pedagogy. We encourage you all to attend and to share this announcement with others in the University who may be interested.
