Congratulations to Dr. Lillian Gorman for receiving the 2026 AAHHE Book of the Year Award – Mid Career Category!
This award was received for Zones of Encuentro: Language and Identities in Northern New Mexico. Published in October 2024, Dr. Gorman’s book offers an “...in-depth look at the cultural and linguistic interactions between two distinct Latina/o/x communities in the region” (The Ohio State University Press).
The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) Books of the Year Awards celebrate scholarly works that deepen our understanding of the Hispanic experience and enrich research in education. These annual honors, presented at the AAHHE national conference, are judged by a committee of experts who look for books that demonstrate outstanding writing, impact, and contribution to research that advances knowledge in Latinx studies and higher education (Books of the Year Awards).
The Mid-Career Category specifically recognizes published works by scholars who have established themselves through tenure or sustained academic leadership, and whose book reflects high standards of research quality and influence in the field (Books of the Year Awards).
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese extends our congratulations to our very own Professor Gorman for receiving this award!
