¡Mucho gusto! はじめまして!
My name is Zcheecid (she/her/ella), and I am a first-year PhD student in Hispanic Linguistics. I am a Graduate Associate with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, teaching Spanish 101. My current research interests center around bilingual families: child language acquisition (CLA), family language policy, and language attitudes/ideologies. I am especially interested in Latino-Japanese youth and how they navigate the use of their languages while living in Japan. I completed both my bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Arizona, having participated in an Accelerated Master's Program. I also took part in a language intensive program at Waseda University in Tokyo and have intermediate fluency in Japanese. I have worked in Higher Ed in Student Advocacy for five years, and I have strong ties to the Tucson community, including the UA campus. My true passion lies with languages - learning them and learning about them!
M.A. in Japanese Sociolinguistics, B.A. in East Asian Studies, with an emphasis on Japanese culture
