The Department of Spanish and Portuguese is elated to celebrate our very own Spanish advisor, Rae LaBar Palmer, who was honored with the New Advisor Award!
A double alumni of the University of Arizona, Rae has spent the past 7 years contributing her kind heart and thoughtfulness to higher education. Speaking on her perspective as an advisor, Rae said, “My journey, filled with both struggles and successes, has deeply influenced who I am and how I approach my role as an academic advisor. As a proud alumna who has transitioned into graduate studies, teaching, and advising, I genuinely understand the challenges many students face. I strive to approach each interaction with empathy, authenticity, and resilience.”
Countless students have been encouraged and guided by Rae’s holistic advising. In one letter of recommendation for Rae, one student said, “She is warm and welcoming, always making you feel like you’re the only person in the world when you speak with her, whether it’s a quick chat or a lengthy conversation. She is so kind, supportive, and encouraging – always in your corner, even when it feels like no one else is.”
We extend our utmost gratitude to Rae for all of her dedication and care for our Spanish and Portuguese students!
